Movie review: Sri Anjaneyam

Ever since I started praying to Lord Hanuman, any small mention of his name even while watching a movie makes me happy. When I saw this movie "Sri Anjaneyam" it motivated me many times over.

I am not writing this movie review as a regular movie review but more as a devotee of Lord Hanuman. Movie name itself means an invocation of Lord. Though this movie was made with regular aspects of a movie which will attract crowd, the spiritual dimension also makes a good impression.

Anji as a child looses his parents to violence by local mobster. The child develop deep devotion to Lord Hanuman and carries his picture with him always. He is adopted by many people in village when he is discovered as an orphan. He is simple minded and serves everyone. Service to Lord Hanuman is always on his mind. He installs a statue of "his boss" in the city and vows to take care of him always.

Local mobster not only has plots to stop others from constructing a local dam but also aims to demolish local temple of Lord Rama. He teams up with a evil persons who suggests that Anji should be sacrified.

At this time Lord Hanuman comes to protect Anji and guide him to fight evil. He is blessed with Lord's grace and he comes in human form as a friend of Anji. He is unaware of Lord in human form and treats him just like a friend. They play together and do work together. This part of movie makes an interesting part. As a devotee, I wished I can gain grace in similar manner. A series of miracles are performed.

* Anji jumps over a lake in air
* He fights with a mischevious gang operating a liquor shop opposite temple
* When he is being attacked, Lord Hanuman scares away people my moving his statue.

During this phase, Anji is not aware of the fact that Lord is with him in human form.

Finally Lord destroys evil persons attempting to sacrifice Anji. Anji does not know this and he gets confused and blames Lord Hanuman in human form for the problems and asks him to go away.

Only later he is aware that only he was in presence of Lord Hanuman. He regrets his actions. He gets a vision where Lord advices him to have faith and carry out his mission.

The movie ends on a happy note where Anji manages to fight away mobsters and promote construction of local dam.

The movie is also a pleasure to watch with the digital effects of Lord manifesting out of nowhere and vanishing in a splashing second. Incidents like a statue turning head and statue walking are made with special effects that is really worth watching.

Finally this movie has personally inspired me to strive for His grace with a devotion that is simple and whole hearted. Gaining His grace is possible for any being once this devotion is sincere. It is possible to experience miracles of Lord when the faith fills the heart and replaces ego.
