Visit to Social Security Office

Kishore

After coming to US in December 2000, the first task I had to do was apply for Social Security Number. Without the social security number, I cannot join the company. Next day after we landed in US I called up a cab company and asked for a cab. I had taken necessary directions to Social Security Office in Redwood City which I thought will be nearer to the place we were staying. We are still new to the place and suffering from jetlag. The cab driver came and asked where we have to go. I told him I want to go to Social Security Office. He suggested that he knows office in San Jose which will be nearer to the place we are staying and he drove to that office. I felt God knows what is best and he has come in this form.

The cab driver drove us to San Jose. Meanwhile he also offered good amount of advice to us. My wife was already feeling lonely because we didn't see anyone whom we know from the time we landed. This is quite a contrast to what we she is used to India, people everywhere. He told us not to worry that all the feelings of being alone and soon we will be comfortable.

After we went to office the cab driver also came in and helped us fill the applications for my wife while I was filling my application. This was unexpected. He was more like a friend at that time than a cab driver. He also stood with us in the queue. Only later I came to know that dependents don't get social security number. However the entire work was done with 15 minutes and he dropped us off back at our apartment and went off.

I felt this as another divine experience because we received a lot of help and profound advice. It was just like what Guruji told us. When you need help he will come and help and give you comfort just like a friend and father. We felt that is what happened during this incident.
